by Erika Gayle Urbano and Kenneth Done Taguiba
The School of Basic Education held the first ever Panpacific Experience: Inter-school Sports Competition (PEISC) last June 23-27, 2022, in the PUNP Tayug Campus. The competition saw athletes from different schools from the 5th and 6th district of Pangasinan showcase their skills in volleyball and basketball.
Day 1
As the different participating schools flocked the PUNP Tayug Campus, the College of Teacher Education, through students from the Bachelor of Physical Education welcomed them with a dance around the globe area. The wonderful performance of the College of Teacher Education was followed up by a performance from the College of Criminal Justice Education called “the Silent Drill.”
Before the competition officially began, the five departments of PUNP Tayug entertained the participants with their own creative way of showcasing their talents and skills related to their own respective fields: the College of Teacher Education once again performed an electrifying dance number; the College of Business and Management Education performed a breathtaking Flaring performance; the College of Computer Studies showed their intellectual prowess through their App Demonstration; the School of Basic Education also performed a dance number and their mascot performance to symbolize the three different houses; and CCJE capitalized on their mastery of the rifle with yet another Silent Drill Exhibition.
Day 2
Along with the exciting games ongoing on the second day, the marketing team, together with the Office of the Student Services and the College of Criminal Justice Education conducted a campus tour to showcase the beautiful campus of PUNP Tayug.
The tour was meant to highlight the different facilities that PUNP Tayug has to offer namely the following: 1) The Guidance Office, 2) the Administration Office, 3) the Center for Speech and Language Development, 4) the Library, 5) the Mock Hotel, 6) the Kitchen, 7) the Function Hall, 8) the School of Basic Education, 9) the Science Laboratory, 10) the Crime Laboratory, 11) the Padilla Building, 12) the Globe, and 13) the Clinic.
Basketball Exhibition Game: PUNP Tayug (College Varsity) vs. Team Luid One Kapampangan
One of the many treats provided by PUNP Tayug to the guests and the participants of the PEISC is an exhibition game against Team Luid One Kapampangan, a selection of the best basketball players under 21 years of age from the province of Pampanga. Though PUNP Tayug ultimately succumbed to the towering players of Team Luid One Kapampangan, the crowd enjoyed every minute of the high-octane action from the exhibition game.
In the post-game interview with PUNP Tayug Coach, Mr. Julito Tumulak, he acknowledges the superior skills and chemistry of Team Luid One Kapampangan. “They have very high chemistry with each other and they are very familiar with each other’s skills,” said the long-time coach of PUNP Tayug. Coach Tumulak also added that the bout was “toe-to-toe” in the beginning but later admitted that the pandemic played a role in the lack of training of the PUNP cagers.
“We still have a lot to improve on, and we still have a lot to learn. That kind of experience actually gives us a very important lesson: …we have to prepare more… we have to go beyond [in] our practices,” said Coach Tumulak.
Overall, it was truly an experience that the PUNP Tayug College Varsity will not forget.
