The College of Computer Studies in SY 2020-2021
The College of Computer Studies has been resilient for SY 2020-2021. It has been an academic year where learning has been delivered online through Google Workspace and other platforms. Facilitators were re-trained prior to the beginning of the school year through a faculty development program.
A notable accomplishment last September of 2020 was achieved by the students of the College. Two BSIT students in the persons of Iries Ganal and Cristopher Leal represented the university in the Cohesive and Responsive ASEAN Academic competition 2020 organized by CHED Region 1. Ms. Ganal and Mr. Leal brought home the bacon as champions of the online graphic competition and online digital art competition respectively.
Even though learning is delivered online, the college was able to contribute to the holistic development of students through different academics and co-curricular activities. The 1st meeting of students and faculty for the Academic year, coined as ‘Casus Foederis’ was held October of 2020. Students were divided into different guilds namely: Blue Zephyr, Red Fury, Yellow Titans and Black Aces. Through these guilds, students will be able to develop camaraderie, teamwork and leadership skills.
Mr. Steve Mc Dela Peña, a faculty member of the College was ranked as the 3rd top performing instructor in North Luzon for the Introduction to IoT and Cybersecurity PHILIPPINES 2020! It is an event that recognizes faculty members and CISCO Academies performance in delivering courses such as IoT and Cybersecurity. It is Learn-A-Thon joined by the IT Students of the university and outsiders as well. Through this event, all participants were able to get a digital badge from CISCO for joining this national and global event.
A Freelancing webinar was conducted December of 2020. The speaker of the said webinar is Mr. Mark Enriquez, the CEO of iPhiTech. Through this activity, students were informed on the different avenues available for them to land on careers through freelancing. To name a few, IT freelancing careers such as: Web Development, Graphics Design, Video Editing, Virtual Assistant. An online Christmas Party was also held where everyone showcased their designing skills through their creative face masks. Other competitions were also held in the event such as eSports Competition.
The College also continuously supports different activities of the university such as the Project S.M.I.L.E organized by the Office of Students Services through the Medical, Dental and Health Services Office. The different activities during the 17th Founding anniversary of the university last Februrary was also participated by the College.
For the 1st Trimester, the honor students of the college were Joshua Alamillo, Chris King Vargas, Romelyn Padilla and Shiena Shine Bince. CCS students strive for Excellence which is one of the core values of the University. Fifty nine (59) students from the 3rd and 4th years passed the certification exam for cybersecurity foundation.
In promoting the IT Profession to the female gender, the College also joined the Women Rock IT event organized by CISCO in celebration of the International Girls in ICT which was held April of 2020.
For the 2nd Trimester, the honor students of the college were again awarded to were Joshua Alamillo, Chris King Vargas, Romelyn Padilla and Shiena Shine Bince.
Another International event was joined by the IT students of the university. Chris King Vargas, Jerome Mercado, Philip Luzano and Mary Rose Tamayo presented their Capstone Project entitled SiyenSAYA: a Science eLearning Mobile Application with Augmented Reality Technology in the International Research Conference in IT Education which was held May of 2021.
CCS Day was conducted July of 2021. One of the activities is the IT Talks. Speakers were Mr. Jude Maranga-CEO of CodeChum, Julianne Millamina – CEO of Hobbyahe Philippines, Shiela Graza – DevOps Consultant of Palo IT Singapore and Armand Dane Bantegui, a CCS Alumni who is working at Accenture Philippines as Advanced App Engineering Specialist. Capstone Project Presentation, Course Output presentation, Mobile Legends competition and CCS Got talent were also the activities held during the two-days CCS Day event.
Ending the Academic year is historical as the College produced its honor students. The honorable mentions were Chris King Vargas and Remelyn Galdones, and the very 1st Cum Laude of the College in the person of Mr. Joshua Alamillo. The College for this school year produced 21 BSIT graduates in Graphics and Animation, 19 BSIT graduates in Network Administration, 10 BSIT graduates in Web Development, 7 BSIT graduates in Database Administration and 1 BSCS graduate in Data Analytics.
