236 TES grantees receive 60k max

The Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES) under RA 10931 otherwise known as the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act has been released to 236 PUNP-Tayug grantees last Thursday at the university auditorium.

The grantees received as high as 60, 000 pesos. The amount of money supports the grantees for their tuition and miscellaneous fee and allowances for books, transportation and other personal needs.

For programs requiring professional license or certification, TES also covers application fees, norarial fees, review classes fees, insurance premium fees and documentation fees.

Dr. Donna P. Taguiba, the university president told the grantees to “use the money for the future, but don’t forget to give back.” This is to remind the students that the best way to utilize their education it to help the community grow”. Likewise, she asked the parents to support their children in their study.

In response, Tessy Oria, a parent, told in an interview that she is in full support for his son’s education. “Todo suporta talaga ako sa pag-aaral ng aking anak. Kaya laking pasasalamat ko kasi malaking tulong ito sa kanyang pag-aaral”. [I am in full support of my son’s education. That is why I am very grateful because it is (grant) a very big help in his study].

Moreover, Rowena Rillorta, a parent and a member of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4P’s), extends her gratitude and recognized that it is really a big help to them. “Laking pasasalamat ko sa CHED at PUNP-Tayug. Hindi na kami mamomroblema sa pagtuition ng anak ko”. [I am very thankful to CHED and PUNP-Tayug. We will not bother anymore for the tuition of my daughter]

The grantees have their plans already on how to spend their money. Junalyn Manaoat, a Bachelor of Physical Education (BPED) student said “I will spend it for my tuition and for my allowance. I will also give the extra money to my mother.” The couple Ian Romero and Dyann Trisha May Romero, both students of PUNP-Tayug said “Makakatulong na kami sa nagpapaaral sa amin.” Magagamit din namin ito para mag-start ng business” [We can already help those who support us in our study. We can also use this (grant) to start a business.]

Grantees in each department also gave their deepest gratitude to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and PUNP-Tayug for working collaboratively in supporting them in their study. Elvira Vinluan, from the College of Business and Management Education (CBME), made a promise to study hard in response to the grant she received. On the other hand, Amira Estrada from the College of Teacher Education (CTE) told her fellow grantees to be more patient in waiting for their fund. She also encouraged them to refrain from making negative thoughts and comments regarding their scholarship.

The scholars waited for almost half year before they have finally received the funds. This is because of the processes that need to be done by the government itself. Dr. Taguiba said, “We have just received the fund on the 2nd of July at CHED Region I. We just spend a day for processing and now, you will be receiving your money.”

The grant itself sufficed their long wait as it subsidies their financial needs. Indeed, CHED, in collaboration with PUNP-Tayug, made universal access to quality education possible.
