About PUNP
The world today experiences rapid and continuous change brought about not only by God’s own design but also by man himself through science and technology. This change is perceived as favorable for development of the nation.
The Philippines like the rest of the developing countries has adopted the thrust to improve quality of life. Greater attention is to be given to the less fortunate, particularly the marginalized. This direction is part of a clear vision of national leaders as reflected in the Long Term Development Plan (2000-2010). It hopes to achieve or pursue this direction through mega clusters where regional initiatives on industrialization will be seen.
At present, the North Luzon Growth Commission which includes Region 1, Region 2 and Cordillera Administrative Region is in full gear. Urdaneta which is on its fifth year as city is one of the industrial centers in this growth center. Tourism facilities are presently undergoing improvement and investments around the centers are reaching its peak. With this scenario, industries will rise and workers will be hired resulting to growth in population. Pangasinan and La Union are the two provinces as key areas for development, which will ultimately benefit the populace in terms of enhancement of quality life.
Higher education as the apex of the Philippine educational system makes up the backbone of human resource planning. It is in this level where National Development depends for the higher level of manpower. Educational institutions are therefore involved in the socio-economic growth of the nation most especially in responding to manpower requirements of the country.
It is therefore necessary that the goals and objectives of the higher education be attuned to national development, to meet the economy’s manpower needs. The institutions must produce quality graduates with skills needed by the labor market.
It is within this context, that the Panpacific University North Philippines was conceived. PUNP is a non-sectarian higher education institution duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission and is authorized by the government to operate courses under the laws of the Republic of the Philippines through the Commission on Higher Education. Its prospects for development are articulated in its vision and mission.
Brief History
PUNP Tayug was established in June 2004 at Bonifcaio St. Tayug, Pangasinan. It was then known as East Pangasinan Colleges of Science and Technology (ePCST). It started its operation in a one storey building with seven classrooms excluding its different laboratory rooms.
On its second year of operation, the number of students doubled from 300 to 600 or more. So they started to develop new location of the school in preparation on its third year operation located at Lopez Jaena St., Tayug, Pangasinan, because of booming population of students in ePCST.
As expected on the following year of operation, all students of ePCST moved in Lopez Jaena St. with twenty classrooms and building administration office. Enrolled number of students doubles especially in Nursing, IT courses and Criminology. EPCST also offers Pre Elementary, Elementary and High School. Other courses include BS Elementary Education, BS Computer Science, BS Criminology, BS Information Technology, BS Hotel and Restaurant Management and 2-year TESDA courses.
In November 2007, a University is born. When Pangasinan Colleges of Science and Technology of Urdaneta City received it’s University status, and EPCST as an affiliate has also received the privilege of being a University. It is now dubbed as Panpacific University North Philippines Tayug Campus. The number of students grows from hundreds, now thousands of students. The 20 classrooms were not enough so they build a three storey building with different laboratory rooms for different courses.
